Support for Alan Johnston

Added a link to the sidebar that gives out more information about Alan Johnston, a British journalist from BBC reporting in Palestine, and him being captured for over 50 days now. By raising some awareness on this issue, this is the least for the free and continuous flow of information in 21st century.

(Conquest of the) New World

The news is everywhere and I also got to the Earth-like planet found in the Gliese 581 system. My first impression was excitement mixed with amazement, joy mixed with some fears of the possibility of life other than that on Earth, but after reading some more I got to the point where I started thinking about all the research needed to have better clues whether actually this Earth-like planet can be inhabited, and then my thoughts jumped on to huge amount of money that will be involved and the possible benefits for the big money investors; gains after they gain access to the "New World".

I pictured it as huge machines exploiting the riches of this new world, a grey sky, and rich corporations reaping more profits than ever before. I wondered why this strange, pessimistic image got into my head... All this left me with a bad aftertaste.

An old blog, a new post

About a week or so after the creation of this blog I thought spaming this one with all the things about my gaming experience this blog will get too messy and there will be ... waaaay too much about games. So around mid September or so, I made a separate blog specifically about gaming: computer, video, console gaming - on and offline. Just about any type of games.

Finally today, or it is already "tomorrow", I made the first post.

Hopefully this will not get me into another Planetarion (PA), IRC whirlpool... So that means it will be more about offline than online games. But time will show.

You can find the new blog at: http://randland-games.blogspot.com/

Arghh just noticed several posts that have been in draft stages for months now... one day I'll sit and properly finish and edit them up. May be with some pics from my yesterday's trip to Plovdiv.

So until then.

You are not alone!

Freedom for the Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor in Lybia! After so many years, evidence and proofs, they finally deserve it. Time to cancel the death sentences from the unfair trial and let them free. Hopefully that will happen in the new, coming 2007.

Music and more

After a rather longer-than-expected cleaning-the-house-day, I've done another session of listening to the game soundtrack of Jets'N'Guns by Machinae Supremacy. A very well done music for a game I have never played, but after listening to the music, and laughing at few screenshots, I definatelly want to get my hands on it. It reminds me of Tyrian, the first PC game of new generation games that I played. (After that came the long addiction of UFO 2 or aka X-COM 2.) NES Rockman's (Megaman) Snakeman stage music really made a big impression on me even back then, that I still remember it to this day. If you are like that, into those old, nostalgic game beats of NES, SNES, arcade fighter shooters, or the good but somewhat limited due to the technology of the days RPG sounds of FF-like games but mixed with something new, and needless to say in a better quality for proper music speakers, here it is, check it out!

[ Edit: I also think that .ogg format flies are a somewhat better quality. ]
[ Edit 2: Oh, and I'm also a proud owner of their limited Redeemer underground edition CD :D ]

I also saw a post, about pictures, news and games , that is saved as a draft, a draft I've been trying to edit up and finally post it, now now for some 3 weeks(?), but can't get my attention (or motivation?) to it. I'll finally finish it up over the weekend.

Randland?

A curious misspelling lead me to http://randland.blogpsot.com/

I wonder why they chose that address. Another mystery of the sort of which came first, chicken or the egg ...

But the site seems interesting as the creators claim it has a size equal to more than 6000 pages...

So does that mean that Randland is soooo popular???

30.10.2006

Today in a taxi the taxi driver, like they always do, chatted me up... and we got to the "let's complain about life" part - that tends to be the mid story of almost all taxi drivers - after he complained that he tried to bribe a police officer with 10 levs (apparently the fine was more than 10 levs it seems; 2 levs (BGN) = 1 euro). The officer didn't accept, his clients told him he should have offered 20 instead. The story cut short, however you look at it the driver was at fault, and well done to teh officer for not accepting the bribe, no sympathy whatsoever for the driver, in this mad driving full with wanna-be drivers city.

So the cab driver says 20 levs was too much for him, as he gets for the night shift around 30-35 levs profit, and he got a family to feed at home, needs to save something. Here I nod my head, and after some pause of understanding (no I don't have kids to feed), I try to get my side of it to him. I say that about 3 times, if not more I was refused by drivers to take me where I wanted, true in 2 cases as I recall, 1 for certain, the distance was rather close, but I was in a hurry, perhaps ready to tip them more generously. But those ^%%$#D&S$%$# greedy "bakshishi" (as they are often called here) don't even bother. With rather rude tone I'm refused. Why? Because they are reading a newpaper, book, whatever, on the top of it there are other cabs lining up, and it means because I chose them, they have the possibility to gain an advantage against the competition, little, but nevertheless an advantage! On the top of it there is an initial fee, as it is common, if not universal, any/every-where else...

Sooo... indirectly I'm trying to figure out why taxi drivers complain, when they refuses to make some money, yes little money is still $$$$$! The driver replies in that case clients perhaps have the rights to complain, and tells me a story how he once queued up at the coach station for 30 mins to get someone who was going really nearby. I think taxi drivers should deffinitely have the right to refuse passengers, but if they do STFU and cut some of the complaints how misery of life is always after you, as you refuse passengers, take the consequences that follow. Afterall its the paying passangers who should have the last word, especially if they are happy and satisfied or not!!!

That cab today, all others who refused me before, and the one where I dropped my mobile phone - later to disappear mysteriously, most likely in the hands or pocket of the driver (&*%#$###@!!!) - are of the same "prestigious", biggest Bulgarian taxi company. Enough said about OK Supertrans...

Tomorrow I'm planning to go to the Southeastern Europe Economic Forum thats taking place in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. The topics are interesting and cover problems (as written on the schedule) that are of actual importance not only for the 2 will-be members of EU, but as well of an importance for some of the Central European countries, at least so in my opinion... I'll find out more tomorrow.
